Home | Help | Vellum Paper | Understanding Vellum Weights Understanding Vellum Weights (#'s)
The differences between the weights of the paper are noted by a physical number followed by # (example: 17#). The # sign behind the number represents the thickness of the paper. So a 29# is slightly heavier in weight compared to the 17#. So the smaller the number of the vellum, the lighter the weight of the paper. For example, 17# is lighter in weight then the 48#. Due to a different manufacturing process, the 17# is also LESS translucent than the 29#. With vellum paper you can't go wrong; experimenting is the key to find what is best for your project. Samples can also be ordered from the bottom of any page. Image on Right: This is a comparison of our 17# Vellum, 29# Vellum, and 36# Vellum. As you go down the image, the paper gets thicker and less translucent. |
